H_NGM_N, an online journal of poetry, prose &c. appears whenever it wants, usually once a year. We consider work that has not appeared anywhere else - online or in print - & we acquire first rights. But: if we accept your work, you’re saying it’s OK for us to archive your work on the site indefinitely & to include it in future print anthologies.

PS - please acknowledge H_NGM_N as the place of original publication in the event of any future republication of your work. OK?

:: POETRY :: Nate Pritts :: Editor

:: Clay Matthews, Robert Krut, Darcie Dennigan :: Associates

It takes all kinds—we’re interested in linguistic sparks, the slow burn, the zany & the serene; submit 5-7 poems, a nice healthy amount so we can get to know you, attached as one file. We are committed to lively & engaging writing.

Write “Poetry” in the subject line of your submission & send to editor@h-ngm-n.com

EP POETS are those poets, both movers & shakers, who we think have something important to say. We allow these poets to stretch their legs a little, giving readers a chance to become acquainted with a larger selection of work while providing the opportunity for the poet to articulate something vital about their poetics.

All EP POETS are solicited by the editor.

FROM.

Sequences, serials and the long long poem: all of it finds its way into this section. Submit 5-10 pages from a longer work; DO NOT write an aesthetic statement to accompany your submission though a few words about it in your cover letter couldn’t hurt.

Write “From” in the subject line & send to editor@h-ngm-n.com

portable document format chapbooks are by solicitation only until further notice.

:: PROSE ::

NONFICTION.

We’re interested, primarily, in works of nonfiction that are lyrical, intense, stunning, hybrid, made of words, made of anything.  We kind of don’t know.  Just send it.

We’re always kind of thrilled to get “essays” that are competently critical considerations of a poet, poetic movement &c, anywhere from 6-16 pages. Please query before sending an entire essay; we reserve the right to have an overwhelming feeling of disinterest in your topic, no matter how cogent your thesis.

Additionally, we will consider essays about people, movements & events in artistic disciplines outside poetry.

Write “Essay” in the subject line of your submission & send to editor@h-ngm-n.com

Also, we’re interested in quasi-historical surveys of particular literary magazines—inclusive of the entire run or limited to a highwater mark. We’re interested in the names & the dates, the ripples in the pond: what did they say, what do they say to us today.

Write “Lit Mag” in the subject line of your submission & send to editor@h-ngm-n.com

REVIEWS :: Reviews Editor :: Gina Myers

In theory, we will only review work that we like; however, we believe the best reviews are those that see the good & the bad, that are descriptive & constructive.

Each issue of H_NGM_N will feature a round-up review of 3-4 chapbooks & any amount of books that we feel comfortable with.

If you are interested in becoming a reviewer for H_NGM_N, write to us with a sample of your critical prose.

Write “Review Query” in the subject line of your submission & send to gina@h-ngm-n.com.

Publishers & writers interested in seeing their work reviewed in H_NGM_N should send material for consideration to:

Dr. Nate Pritts

5068 Briarledge Rd.

…or send a link to your work on the web: gina@h-ngm-n.com.

FICTION :: Fiction Editor :: Matt Dube

H_NGM_N is now accepting submissions of fiction for #9 and beyond. Read over the mag and you’ll see what we like: stories that activate language, Wonder Twin style, to demonstrate an intricate and beautiful disorder. No stories about dishwashing, divorce, or drivers’ ed, unless they are really excellent.

Write “Fiction” in your subject line & send the first 1000wds of your story in the body of your email to  matt@h-ngm-n.com. If we want to see more, we’ll ask. If your whole story is less than 1000wds, then send the whole thing.
