Chapbook #3 - SONNET by Matt Hart

SOLD OUT!

Praise for SONNET:

To read this poem is to ride a stone blue pony bareback & backwards through the spirit of fire, powered alternately by cheer & chuff &, as ever, the machine called ache. A cloud, a furnace, a burning balloon. This sonnet of fractured sonnets—which nevertheless loop back & refer to & reshape one another—is braced by intelligence, filtered through the Matt Hart Musick Purity Engine & meant so deeply that this volume may cut or sop onto your open palms, O Reader, you smaller god, swooning. So open. Your cardiac. This book. Be broken & woked up good.

—Terri Ford

Matt Hart is blowing up. Here are 196 sticks of simultaneous dynamite: detonation, fulmination, and fire. Sometimes you have to raze the old place. Playing inside a tricky tradition of testing tradition while trying it, Sonnet takes (acknowledged) cues where it wants, “copies as hard as it can,” cuts and runs and pastes somewhere near Ted Berrigan’s neighborhood, but to a result completely Cincinnati. This poem is profoundly populated (friends, ideas, animals), headlong, and not afraid to say a thing.

—Ben Doyle

Matt Hart reads a lot. To himself and to other people. This improves the lives of those around him. He is intelligent and smart—an enviable and powerful enthusiasm animates both his smartness and intelligence. He has a great voice. Anyway, I like the way he talks. He is a real poet 24 hours a day and an excellent person.

—Anthony McCann
