Giving One’s Word
1.
We give to the imaginary
the formal guarantee of the real.
The effect the phone might have
on our dreams,
or fire trucks,
on our dreams.
It could be two a.m. for a long,
long time.
2.
What I mean when,
jesus, the words renounce themselves—
we’re all blind, even god, like gravity.
I’m trying to read more into things is all.
3.
The words expand.
They absorb scenes
inside our dreams.
Time doesn’t pass by.
It passes away.
It’s a cold death always.
